My best strategy is when I have a really awful teammate to keep it to myself so nobody else is warned off taking him into an alliance and when I thus see him in one I know that alliance is weak.  Besides if everyone does share the information they just stop using that name.

That could maybe happen I am sure some off my bad allies have improved in a later stage but some I doubt ever will break the barrier.

It might be worth noting that I originally wrote "awful teammate" not a bad player.  Many bad or mediocre do improve.  There are actually some fairly good players who know many details that are not team oriented.  My observation was reserved for really bad teammates- players that actually hinder their team.

You mean like the type of player who builds his own ships without discussing fleet design with the rest of the alliance, doesn't bother swapping habs unless there is a h/w in the offering, and when your asleep for those few precious hours at night decides to feed your alliance fleet's in exchange for a pat on the back off a "vet."

That makes you grit your teeth.
